Fire alarm at The Hobbit set offers sneak peek at Middle-earth

A false fire alarm on the set of The Hobbit opened the doors for a keen-eyed Tolkien fan to get a few fleeting shots of some Middle-earth sets.

Two pics have surfaced from the false fire alarm at Stone St. Studios in Miramar, which opened the gates this past weekend for fire fighters to enter the lot.

The pics themselves show off an old house, set in front of a green screen. The photographer on the scene fired off a few quick shots, but security stopped him before he could get further inside.

Directed by Lord of the Rings alum Peter Jackson, the two-part Hobbit film project is a prequel to LOTR, based on the acclaimed J.R.R. Tolkien book of the same name. The first installment, An Unexpected Journey, opens on December 14.
